The fire erupted in the engine room of DRAGON STAR 1 ferry in the afternoon Feb 25, when a ferry with 52 passengers on board was en route from Kuah Terminal, Langkawi Island to Kuala Perlis, northwest Malaysia, Malacca Strait, Malaysia-Thailand border. Fire engulfed aft superstructure, passengers were gathered in the fore section and evacuated to vessels and boats nearby, which rushed to rescue. Two people sustained injured, ferry looks like she’s to be a total loss.
